Winter gardening in Montana? Yes, you can! Get a jump start on your spring gardening by using a one-gallon plastic jug and a few basic supplies. Join us to learn about this seed-starting method, which seeds work best, how to create your mini-garden and where to place it outside for growing success. Bonsai Make & Take Workshop

Join us for a hands-on "make and take" workshop where you'll discover the fundamentals of bonsai artistry. In this session, we will explore the basics of bonsai development and design, including techniques for pruning, wiring and ongoing maintenance. Participants will plant and craft their very own Juniper bonsai, creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece to enjoy and nurture for years to come. This workshop is perfect for anyone eager to delve into the world of bonsai. Basic tools and wire will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their personal tools for a more customized experience. Cost of class includes hands-on instruction, juniper tree and all materials. Class format includes a lunch break. Registration with prepayment is required and class size is limited. Join usto learn how to start plants from seed. We'll discuss choosing seeds, seed starting supplies, plants to start indoors vs outdoors, different sowing methods, indoor growing conditions and common issues, how to transition plants outside into the garden, and more.

Bio: Megan Poulette is an Associate Professor of Botany and Environmental Science at Rocky Mountain College. After a stint in commercial horticulture in Colorado, she earned her MS in Plant and Soil Science and a PhD in Biology at the University of Kentucky. Megan is a life-long gardener and member of the St Andrews Community Garden here in Billings. Growing Microgreens

A tiny but mighty produce. Microgreens are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs harvested at less than 14 days after germination. Smaller than "baby greens" and harvested later than "sprouts", microgreens can provide a variety of leaf flavors such as sweet and spice and pack a nutritional punch. Microgreens can contain up to five times greater levels of vitamins and carotenoids than their mature plant counterparts. Join us to learn more about these easy to grow produce, the supplies needed and which seeds will give you the greatest success. Class participants will receive 10% off any microgreens supplies purchased day of class.

Let's Talk About Bugs

The good. The bad. The ugly. What are "good bugs" and how they can benefit your plants even if they are ugly. Bag bugs and how to determine the best way to deal with them, from organic options to homemade solutions to chemical treatments. Insects are not exclusive to outdoor plants and can be a nuisance indoors as well. Treatment options which are safe for indoor use will also be discussed. Having trouble with a specific pest or not sure which pest is causing the damage on your plants? Bring photos of the insect and a damaged portion of your plant, we will help identify and find a solution that works for you. Preregistration is encouraged by calling (406) 248-5029.
