Our Favorite Patriotic Ways to Celebrate Independence Day

On the Fourth of July, we wave the American flag to commemorate our nation’s Independence and freedom that was achieved in 1776. In addition to traditional backyard cookouts with neighbors and loved ones, celebrating Independence Day is done in a myriad of ways that allow us to show our patriotism. Here at Gainan’s, the top florist in Billings, we are talking about some of our favorite ways to celebrate America and honor those who have made our country one of the best.

7 Ways to Show Your Patriotism

Celebrate!

Gathering your family and friends to enjoy a day of celebration and fun is something a lot of us do to commemorate many major holidays and birthdays. The Fourth of July (America’s birthday) is one of these holidays where games, food, flowers, and red, white, and blue decorations fill backyards, parks, beaches, and neighborhoods. Festive parties with loved ones remind us of our patriotism and freedom while we create precious memories with one another.

Attend a Patriotic Parade

Many neighborhoods and cities host Independence Day parades to celebrate those who helped make the USA a free country. As we honor these brave men and women, we attend lively, festive parades that fill the streets with marching bands, songs, bicycles with streamers, decorative floats, and joy.

Support a Veteran

Without our honorable veterans, Independence Day and our country’s history would look quite different. Support our veterans and commemorate the spirit of America’s birthday by contacting the local VA and donating your time. Perhaps you feel include to send handwritten notes and fresh flowers to veterans to show your patriotism and gratitude.

Fly the Stars and Stripes

When flying the American flag, it is crucial to ensure you are following the rules so as to not disrespect the colors. Retire any American flag that is torn or tattered and shine a light if you plan to fly your flag at night. If you have multiple flags on one pole, the American flag should be the highest one.

Visit a National Park or Historic Landmark

Celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s history by marveling over stunning monuments, landmarks, or national parks. With so many to choose from you are sure to find a location that speaks to you, fills you with pride, and reveals a new piece of our country’s story.

Shop Local & Buy American

Supporting American-made goods and small businesses in your local community is perhaps the most patriotic thing we can do. Fueling your local economy is the first step toward helping the nation’s economy thrive. So, this Independence Day, shop local!

Display Patriotic Blooms

Red, white, and blue blooms are a staple when it comes to Independence Day decor. Whether displayed in pots on your porch, planted in your flower garden, or nestled on your kitchen counter, flowers are always a beautiful and special way to celebrate. Share lovely floral arrangements by gifting them to party hosts, sending them to veterans, or placing them on a soldier’s grave in gratitude for their service. In addition to the obvious trio of colors, consider enjoying these additional symbolic flowers for the Fourth of July:

  • Rose – America’s national flower
  • Freesias – these flowy and beautiful blooms symbolize freedom
  • Edelweiss – charming white flowers shaped like stars that signify strength and courage
  • Guernsey Lilies – unique flowers that resemble fireworks and represent freedom and good fortune
  • Black-Eyed Susans – these bright yellow star-burst-like blooms with a striking dark round center symbolize justice.

Celebrating our nation doesn’t have to be specific to the Fourth of July and patriotic holidays. Show your patriotism all year round by honoring, remembering, and supporting those who help make our country wonderful. For patriotic flowers and other blooms for special celebrations, Gainan’s is here with fresh and unique arrangements.
