The Thanksgiving Table

What food do you think of when you hear Thanksgiving?

Of course, Thanksgiving would not be the same without the traditional turkey. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that nearly 95% of us will sit down to turkey this November 27. But was the bird present on the very first Thanksgiving in 1621? We aren’t really sure.

We do know that the Wampanoag Indians brought 5 deer to the feast, and that was likely the main course. There would have also been wild birds of some kind, so turkey may have been on the menu, along with local seafood including clams, mussels and eel. Traditional favorites potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie, however, would not have been served.

The most important thing about the holiday does remain – the table. Around the holiday table, we still meet with family and friends to express gratitude for all our blessings. The warmth and love of the season is expressed through the sharing of the meal, regardless of what food is prepared. However you celebrate Thanksgiving, and whoever you celebrate with- stop into Gainan’s Flowers for the fall flowers and centerpieces that will make your holiday shine.

Traditional to contemporary, an autumn floral arrangement or bouquet from Gainan’s Flowers will be perfect for any décor. Whether brightening your meal, or as a gift for your host, the vivid oranges, reds and yellows of fall make a beautiful statement.

As we enter the holiday season, we offer our wishes for a peaceful and joyous Thanksgiving, full of love, gratitude and flowers.
